  • Press Release – Blue Hill Healthy Ecosystem Ordinance

    Proposed Revised Ordinance Presentation, Friday March 21 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. in
    the Howard Room in the Blue Hill Library.


    The proposed Revised Blue Hill Healthy Ecosystem Ordinance, which will be voted on
    Saturday April 5th at the Town Meeting, is being presented at a public information
    meeting Friday March 21st 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Howard Room in the Blue Hill
    Library.


    The ordinance review committee will present the proposed revised ordinance. The
    committee was organized to review and update the ordinance shortly after a stop gap
    amendment to the ordinance was approved at the 2024 Town Meeting. The stop gap
    amendment’s intent was to allow the continuation of treating elm trees for Dutch elm
    disease within the town of Blue Hill. The amendment was approved after volunteers
    committed to review the amendment and present an alternative at the 2025 Town
    Meeting.

  • The End of Toddy Pond?

    Public Meeting at Maine Maritime Academy’s training facility in Bucksport on Thursday, November 14 at 5:00pm (details)

    Background

    As you may be aware, Toddy Pond is what it is because of a dam in Orland that maintains the water level. This dam, originally associated with the paper mill in Bucksport, is now the subject of a petition by Bucksport Mill LLC has petitioned the DEP for permission to abandon the dam. Two other dams (creating Alamoosook Lake and Silver Lake) are also proposed to be abandoned.

    In the event a new owner (prepared to maintain the dam(s) going forward) is not identified, Maine DEP’s preferred action is apparently to order release of the water held by the dam, which would all but drain the three water bodies.

  • FEMA Disaster Assistance: Public Notification

    FEMA Disaster Assistance: Public Notification for the Town of Blue Hill will be held 4/13 and 4/14 from 8am-2pm at the Blue Hill Fire Station.

    FEMA Disaster Assistance team members will be available to meet with town residents on April, 13 & 14, 2024, from 8A.M to 2 P.M. at the Blue Hill Fire Station to provide information and take applications for financial assistance from homeowners and renters that experienced financial losses as result of the 09-13 January storms that occurred in Hancock County.  

    If you’re unable to meet with FEMA on April 13 & 14, you’re welcome to visit the FEMA Disaster Recovery Center, every day, 8 A.M. to 6 P.M. at the Moore Community Center, 125 State Street, Ellsworth. Or, residents may call: (800) 621-3362 at their convenience to begin the assistance process. Thank you.

  • Discounted Acadia Passes

    Discounted Acadia passes will be available for purchase starting December 15th, 2023 at the Town Hall. The town will accept checks made out to the National Park Service for $35.00.

  • Blue Hill Tree Lighting Event – REMINDER!

    December 5th 5-6pm on the Town Hall lawn, join us for the Blue Hill Tree Lighting Event! There will be music, popcorn, and cider! We hope to see you there!
